Omniscia
Introduction
For as long as history has existed, it has conflicted with itself.
Welcome to Omniscia, a breathtaking realm of majestic mountains, scorching deserts, and verdant meadows. It is a world governed by three formidable factions: Elysium in the north, and Dicaxia anchoring the south, The Alkuli Empire reigning the west. Although an uneasy truce binds them, each faction is set on an unceasing quest to unravel the mysteries of their world and the enigmatic allure of Omnіte.
Omnіte, a radiant blue crystal that gleams throughout all of Omniscia, infuses the land with a potent and arcane magic. These dominant factions, in their unique ways, harness the power of this gemstone to worship their deities, dominate their landscapes, and destroy their adversaries. While each faction’s understanding of Omnіte’s true essence may conflict with its neighbors, each has miraculously unlocked its vast potential in their own ways.
Today, in the year 1046, the people of Omniscia enjoy a relative peace with their neighbors despite their drastically conflicting understandings of the mysteries of their world and how to best organize their societies. Wars have faded into the annals of history. Commerce thrives, transcending boundaries. Even the terrors of the Maw are held at bay. Yet, the inhabitants of Omniscia are united in one belief: no peace is eternal.
The Three Nations
Elysium
Nestled amidst vast mountain ranges and dense, verdant forests, Elysium is a land of contrasts. Its towering cities, constructed vertically due to the limiting terrains, overlook sweeping valleys and meandering rivers. The capital, Vita Nova, stands as a testament to Elysium’s innovation and resilience, while the sprawling landscapes, from the secluded Perditus Pines to the vast plains, attest to its natural grandeur.
Culture
Elysian culture is deeply rooted in a blend of reverence for nature, historical legacies, and an unwavering spirit of independence. Their democratic leadership, symbolized by the Lord or Lady, epitomizes the emphasis on collective decision-making and accountability. Festivals, like the Spring Festival, mark significant historical and seasonal events, celebrating both their triumphs and the beauty of their land. The renowned Borealis academy stands as a beacon of knowledge, nurturing minds that shape Elysium’s future.
History
Elysium’s history is marked by battles, both against external threats and internal turmoil. Perhaps the most significant event was the defeat of their once-revered god Aeternus, a testament to Elysium’s enduring spirit. This victory not only freed the Elysians from divine dominance but also forged a new path of self-determination. Structures dedicated to this deity were repurposed, transforming places of worship into essential government hubs. Though Elysium has known peace, the presence of factions like the Purists ensures that its history is continually evolving.
Exports
Elysium’s exports reflect its unique blend of arcane innovation and natural abundance. Their magic items and weapons are highly sought after around the world. At the forefront are the Omnies, magical artifacts of unmatched utility and enchantment. The depths of the Perditus Pines offer timber and unique flora and fauna, while the slopes of Mount Victus Deus are mined for minerals and rare earth elements. Combining its rich natural resources with technological advancements, Elysium stands as a major trade hub in Omniscia, distributing its products far and wide.
Dicaxia
Dicaxia, sculpted by the Four Gods from the primordial landscapes, is a realm of majestic mountains, dense forests, and sprawling plains. Central to its lore is Dicax, a revered prophet, whose teachings echo through time and guide the Sages — wise individuals dedicated to preserving knowledge and tradition. Scattered across this vast terrain are villages, each with its own unique customs and stories, acting as the lifeblood of Dicaxia and serving as a testament to its rich heritage.
Culture
The culture of Dicaxia is deeply influenced by the legacies of the Four Gods and the teachings of Dicax. With a profound respect for the natural world, Dicaxians mark the ebb and flow of seasons with lively festivals, characterized by traditional dances, music, and unique foods. The sages, as revered guardians of Dicaxian heritage, are central in transmitting wisdom and upholding ancient rituals. Each village adds its own flavor to the broader culture, offering travelers a glimpse into local legends, handcrafted goods, and the seamless union of history and the present that shapes the Dicaxian way of life.
History
Dicaxia was created by the wills of the Four Gods. After a cataclysmic war, Dicax, a visionary leader, united the fragmented tribes of this vast realm, instilling a sense of purpose and harmony. The formation of the sages’ council marked an era of enlightenment, where wisdom and tradition took center stage. However, throughout its history, Dicaxia has also faced its share of challenges, with villages often standing as the last bastions against external threats, ensuring that the legacy of the Four Gods and Dicax’s teachings remain undiminished.
Exports
Trade in Dicaxia operates uniquely, eschewing conventional currency in favor of an intricate barter system deeply rooted in the realm’s traditions. Each village, under the guidance of its leader, negotiates exchanges based on mutual needs and respect. Fertile plains of the region bring forth golden grains and medicinal herbs, which villages use as leverage in their exchanges. This system, built on trust and community bonds, ensures that every village remains self-sufficient and interconnected in the vast expanse of Dicaxia.
The Alkuli Empire
The Alkuli Empire sprawls across vast terrains, from arid deserts to lush jungles. Born from the celestial drama of the Sun and Moon, and deeply interwoven with the tales of divine offspring like Omniscia, the god of earth and life, the empire stands as a testament to both the divine and human spirit. From its inception to the modern era of walls, rebellions, and intricate power dynamics, the Alkuli Empire is a melting pot of vibrant history, storied places, and illustrious individuals.
Culture
The culture of the Alkuli Empire is an intricate blend of divine mythology, societal hierarchy, and artistry. At the heart of their beliefs lies the celestial saga of the Sun and Moon, and their divine offspring, with a particular reverence for Omniscia. Central to the empire’s governance and spiritual fabric are the Archons, revered leaders who wield both political and mystical power passed down from the gods. Architectural wonders and fashion are deeply entwined with their legends, often adorned with shimmering omnіte crystals. Beneath the varied facets of Alkuli society lies a shared spiritual core and resilience that unites its people, giving depth to their diverse yet harmonious culture.
History
The Alkuli Empire’s history is a sweeping chronicle of divine interventions, rebellion, and enduring human spirit. Originating from the union of the Sun and Moon, which birthed Omniscia, the god of earth and life, the empire witnessed divine dramas unfold as Omniscia defied celestial laws, resulting in his subsequent cursing and fall. Over the centuries, the empire saw divine rebellions, catastrophic love stories, and the seismic Lowborn Rebellion, challenging the hegemony of the Highborn. Key events such as the discovery of the Golden Isles enriched the empire’s expanse, and mysteries like the Lost Army added intrigue.
Exports
Trade in the Alkuli Empire is a cornerstone of its prosperity and influence, positioning it as a pivotal economic hub of its era. Anchored by its strategic location between its two neighbors, traders at the Crossroads trading post engage in bustling commerce, exchanging exotic spices, precious gemstones, and other crafted goods with distant lands. The empire’s merchant ships, recognized by their iconic ruby sails, journey far and wide, bringing treasures from distant realms. Additionally, well-maintained caravan routes crisscross the empire, facilitating the movement of goods and fostering the growth of opulent marketplaces in its major cities. Through these trade networks, not only does material wealth flow but also ideas, innovations, and cultural exchanges, solidifying the Alkuli Empire’s legacy in the annals of commerce and cross-cultural engagement.
Inter-Nation Perceptions
Elysium
When Elysians cast their gaze towards Dicaxia, there’s a mixture of respect and confusion. They genuinely appreciate the Dicaxians’ inherent kindness and amiability, finding it easier to maintain diplomatic relations. However, the idea of being entirely subservient to gods defies the very core of Elysian beliefs. They cannot fathom how the Dicaxians live so happily under the weight of such subservience.
The Alkuli Empire, on the other hand, brings forth feelings of distrust. Elysians view the dominion of the Alkuli Archons and the Highborn over the Lowborn as unjust, and even moreso given their claims to divinity. Their belief in self-governance finds them sympathetic to Alkuli’s oppressed, particularly the rebels in the Cradle. Yet, they’re disheartened that these rebels still harbor attachments to their gods.
Dicaxia
To the Dicaxians, Elysium seems to be on a precarious path. They’re puzzled by the Elysian disregard for the gods and ancestors. The frequent change in leadership, every five years, seems to be a recipe for chaos. However, Dicaxians can’t help but admire Elysium’s focus on good stewardship, even if they differ in the underlying motivations.
The relationship with the Alkuli Empire is more complex. The reverence that Alkuli show to their so-called “gods” resonates with Dicaxian culture, but they believe that the Alkuli are misled by false deities. Dicaxians also dislike the materialistic streak in Alkuli’s society, feeling that such desires prevent genuine happiness and societal progress.
The Alkuli Empire
Alkuli, especially the Lowborn, hold a certain admiration for Elysium. The freedom and individual prowess that Elysians enjoy are envied. Craftsmanship from Elysium is highly revered, and their magic items are considered prized possessions. However, the Archons and the Highborn of Alkuli find the Elysian disdain for gods and authority concerning, fearing potential uprisings or challenges to their own power.
Dicaxia, on the other hand, is viewed with condescension by the Alkuli Highborn. They see a nation of complacency, unable to grasp power and content in their subservience to gods that don’t even have a physical presence in the society. The Lowborn of Alkuli predict a grim future for Dicaxia, thinking such a submissive society is ripe for exploitation and cannot sustain in the long run.
The World
The planet Omniscia is situated in a vast sea of liquid Omnite, which gives its sky a strikingly bright blue hue. The celestial bodies in this sky consist only of a sun and a moon, both of which float through the Omnite Sea like Omniscia itself. There are no stars to be seen in the night sky. However, the night is far from dark, as it is illuminated by the moon as well as the gentle blue glow emanating from the Omnite Sea. Additionally, most nights feature vivid auroras that streak across the sky.

An immense stretch of dry plains with occasional tree clusters. Coastal regions see more habitation, while inland settlements, burrowed into the earth, provide respite from the scorching heat. The Empire’s capital, Dawncrest, resides along the coast.
The Golden Isles
These tropical paradises, abode of the empire’s elite sea merchants and tribal locals, are rumored to conceal vast gold reserves.
The Dead Wastes
This parched land, scarred with cracks and marked by sporadic plant and animal life, also features occasional hills and plateaus.
The Emerald Canopy
A thick, perilous jungle teeming with diverse fauna. Local legends whisper of travelers venturing inside, never to return.
The Solstice Desert
An expansive sea of sand dunes, this desert is punctuated by crucial trade arteries and oasis-based settlements.
The Titanspine Mountains
These imposing peaks shelter The Cradle, an underground haven for the Lowborn. In Elysium, they are known as the Volgus Rise.
The Maw
Situated centrally amongst the three nations, The Maw presents a breathtaking spectacle—a vast, yawning crater shimmering with immense crystals of Omnіte. But its beauty is deceptive, for beneath its surface lies treacherous, unstable terrain, and it serves as a breeding ground for ferocious monsters.
Omnite
Omnіte is a distinct, blue-glowing crystal scattered throughout Omniscia. This unique substance stands at the core of all magic in this realm. Every magical effect originates from Omnіte: it powers magical items, channels natural forces, and even amplifies plant growth. Due to its luminescent properties, it’s widely adopted as a reliable light source worldwide. Given its ubiquity and pivotal role in society, it has also become a favored material in artistic creations—from its incorporation into Alkuli garments to its use in Elysian ice sculptures, bestowing them with a radiant glow.
When it remains attached to its original source in the ground, an Omnіte crystal’s power is unending. However, once separated, its energy eventually depletes, with its longevity and potency influenced by its craftsmanship. Expertly carved Omnіte can hold a near infinite reservoir of energy. Drained pieces can regain their power when placed close to charged Omnіte; if the source is either perfectly sculpted or remains whole, it can recharge a depleted piece without losing any of its own energy.
Species
Omniscia is a melting pot of diverse ancestries and species, leading to its inhabitants exhibiting a myriad of unique traits. Most individuals are an amalgamation of multiple species, with their appearance reflecting the predominant lineage in their ancestry. Thus, one might find a person resembling a halfling with small horns hinting at tiefling ancestry or a pronounced hairiness indicative of bugbear lineage. Those descended from more animal-like species, such as Tabaxi, Loxodon, Tortle, and Dragonborn, more strongly mirror the characteristics of these ancestors. While mixed heritage is the norm, a handful of pure-blooded individuals still exist. However, they’re often perceived as insular and bigoted, preferring to distance themselves from the rest.
The humanoid species on Omniscia are: Bugbear, Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Githyanki, Githzerai, Gnome, Goblin, Goliath, Halfling, Human, Loxodon, Orc, Tabaxi, Tiefling, and Tortle.
Religion
Elysium
Elysians believe Omniscia was crafted from the vision of a traveler, an architect of life who sculpted the land and its inhabitants. Yet, as Elysium faced societal discord and turbulence, their very creator decided upon destroying and rebuilding the world. Faced with impending apocalypse, the spirit of the Elysians soared. Defying the presumed inevitability, they united against Aeternus and emerged victorious, rewriting their narrative. This triumph reshaped Elysian faith: the reverence once reserved for deities transitioned to a belief in their own collective strength and willpower. Today, while remnants of their divine past linger in stories and landmarks, the primary spiritual focus in Elysium is on the power of unity, perseverance, and the commitment to forge a better future for their world.
Dicaxia
Originating from a cataclysmic war between mortals and ancestor spirits, the four gods—each symbolizing distinct human attributes—took the mantle of leadership. These gods, while omnipresent, communicate largely through their emissaries, the Sages, who channel divine intentions and educate the populace on various subjects. After death, Dicaxians continue their service as Ancestors in the spiritual realm. Functioning as a collective consciousness, these Ancestors, under the gods’ direction, aid the living by possessing animals and influencing natural forces. Dicaxians eagerly await the promised return of Dicax, the prophet, who would once again unify the spiritual and mortal worlds.
The Alkuli Empire
In the Alkuli Empire’s cosmology, the Sun and Moon birthed Omniscia, the life-giving deity. When Omniscia’s love for the first woman he created led to a child, the Sun, seeing this as a violation of divinity, doomed Omniscia and his lineage to perpetual servitude. The Empire is governed by Archons, influential leaders wielding artifacts from the ancient gods, whose authority is magnified by these relics. Alkuli beliefs also highlight an afterlife journey across the Omnіte Sea to a divine paradise. The passage’s ease is influenced by the deceased’s resources and virtue, with divine favor occasionally granted to the exceptionally devout.
External Threats
The Maw
The Maw is renowned as the most significant omnіte deposit in Omniscia, but its vast reserves of the magical crystal are overshadowed by the inherent dangers within. Its treacherous walls, studded with massive omnіte crystals, make for a hazardous ascent or descent. The terrain inside is unpredictable, with a propensity for sudden cave-ins leading to treacherous sinkholes or extensive subterranean cave networks. There is little water, and the scarce vegetation that sprouts from this barren landscape is more often than not toxic. Yet, the physical challenges posed by the Maw pale in comparison to the monsters that inhabit its confines. A prevailing theory suggests the Maw as the birthplace of all monsters; however, a more accepted belief is that the harshness of the Maw means only such creatures can endure its conditions.
The border guard tasked with safeguarding the perimeter of the Maw, known as the Wardens of the Maw, was formed in a treaty between the three nations. Their purpose is to keep the monstrosities within the Maw from escaping and deter people from entering this perilous zone. Composed largely of volunteers, the force also includes criminals, who are frequently sent on exploration missions inside the Maw. Operating on donations from the public, the Wardens are viewed as a societal necessity in all three nations, making contributions towards their operation almost obligatory for citizens. During their tenure, guards are provided with all essentials and a reasonable salary, which is often sent back to their families. Additionally, they undergo rigorous spiritual and emotional training to maintain composure in the face of unimaginable dangers. Individuals returning from duty with the Wardens generally exhibit two extremes: they’re either psychologically shattered by the experience or emerge with newfound levels of confidence, calmness, and emotional security.
The Dragons
Across the diverse landscapes of Omniscia, dragons can be found in various guises. Some resemble traditional, winged reptiles with four sturdy legs, while others take the form of feathered serpents soaring the skies or sinuous wyrms slithering on land. That being said, most people go their entire lives without seeing a dragon in its true form, as they’re rumored to live among humanity using humanoid forms. No matter which form they take, however, they are proud, solitary creatures. Their objectives and moral compasses are intricate and often inscrutable to humans. Their disposition towards humans varies widely; a dragon that may seem friendly at one moment can swiftly turn into a lethal adversary with seemingly little provocation. Their inherent magic grants them a plethora of abilities. Tales attribute them with powers ranging from fire-breathing and invisibility to shapeshifting, teleportation, and even mind control. Some legends even suggest that dragons can harness all known magic within Omniscia. The veracity of these stories remains a topic of debate, as does the question of whether every dragon possesses an identical set of capabilities.
The Shadows
The Shadows are elusive entities that thrive in darkness. They possess a sinister knack for enticing individuals, especially those emotionally vulnerable or broken, drawing them into their grasp. Once ensnared, these individuals are presented with tantalizing deals, from promises of ending droughts, to resurrecting the deceased, to granting formidable and deadly powers. However, the price for such boons is always steep, demanding the very thing the individual cherishes the most. While commonly believed to feed on the anguish and despair of their victims, tales also whisper of Shadows consuming souls. Their appearance is inconsistent and varies with each account, making them all the more unpredictable and enigmatic.
